Join Us Coach Ali Bahr
Ali Bahr is Coach Mike DeWitt's first born child. This has allowed her the unique experience of an education in training, competing, and coaching from three different perspectives. As a kid, Ali would tag along to practices and meets with Coach DeWitt, and see her dad in action. She was able to watch him transform decent high school athletes into collegiate stand-outs. Many would go on to International success. Ali grew up around the UW~Parkside runners and race walkers. They worked very hard, but had a lot of fun, and she couldn't wait to be a member of the team herself. As a student~athlete at UW~Parkside, Ali had the privilege of running on the Cross Country team, and Race Walking on the Track team, all under the guidance of Coach DeWitt. She followed his workouts and saw success at the collegiate and national levels. And, yes, she had a lot of fun, too! Upon graduation, Ali stuck around Parkside to become a volunteer assistant for Coach DeWitt. She was able to continue training, and became a member of the Parkside Athletic Club. Helping Coach DeWitt enabled her to learn more about coaching. Stepping up the level of training also helped Ali achieve greater successes at even higher levels of competition. Some of Ali Bahr's greatest accomplishments in Race Walking include competing at National level meets and races, representing the United States as a member of the US Junior Track & Field team, earning two NAIA All American Awards, and competing in the 2000 and 2004 US Track & Field Olympic Trials. Outside of UWP/PAC, Ali has assisted other XC and T&F programs, ranging from middle school through Division III college. During her four years at The Prairie School, in Racine, WI, Ali helped get runners to the State Meet every year. Ali has instructed groups of varying ranges of ability, from 'Walking for Fun & Fitness' and 'Fitness & Figure Improvement.' She has coached runners to personal records in races between 5K to half marathons. Ali enjoys running, race walking, and sharing her sports with others...from the rookie who hates running, but wants to be in better shape, to the hard core competitors who want to break records. She also tries to always keep it fun! Other
things that keep Ali quite entertained include raising 3 kids with her
husband, Dewey; substitute teaching; being involved in Church & the
kids' school; paper crafting; baking; camping; refinishing antique furniture;
and a plethora of other hobbies.
