Currently Featured: Tracy's Comeback

The Pack (sometimes) comes back, but even more reliabily, so does (Lynn) Tracy. And lately, she's walking away from the pack. Despite illnesses and injuries that would have grounded most athletestracy for life, Tracy has roared back (yet again) and regularly sets a torrid pace for Wednesday night PAC Workouts. While Tracy's various body parts have let her down from time to time, her competitive spirit and love for racewalking has never wavered. Recently she achieved the following PRs: 27:22/5k, 1:26.57/15k She is only 8 secs. off her 3k PR when she set a national age group record in 1999, and she's determined to beat 15:45 before this year's out.

Her success hasn't come easily. "I've been through so many physical trials in my lifetime--I've lost count of the surgeries--something in me just never gives up. I'm a former drug addict who's been in rehab twice. I consider myself a fighter, a survivor. So even when my abdomen's been sliced open for the third time, I'm bound and determined to get back doing crunches ASAP", says Tracy.

Tracy credits her longer Sunday workouts for her latest achievements. "I used to top out at about 8 miles, but now I push myslef to do 12-13 miles. Oh yeah, shedding 15 pounds this past year hasn't hurt, either. I also started back with weights and I always feel much stronger when I include them in my schedule."

While races are, of course a main driver, Tracy also feels competition at PAC workouts. "Whether it's a man (preferably, I like to check out their butts) or another woman (even Judy!), I love to have someone I can work with. I thoroughly enjoy walking with others who push me, but I've taken to heart what coach taught me early on that I must push MYSELF," points out Tracy.

Being a nonconformist, Tracy had not belonged to a club before joining PAC, but has found it to be the right match. "It seems to me that one needs to be a bit eccentric to truly embrace this unique sport, and I relish that in people. The cmaraderie that has developed among PAC members is a delight to behold. When other parts of my life were falling apart, racewalking and the PAC were the glue that helped me keep it together.
